BULLETIN NUMBER:  SWB-031

DATE ISSUED:  June 25, 2003

DATE CLOSED:  September 15, 2003

AFFECTED SYSTEMS:  iHawk 861G

RELEASE LEVEL:  RedHawk 1.2 and RedHawk 1.3

EXPLANATION:  The iHawk 861G system ,which is a Dell 450, has an IDE based

disk system. The installation procedure in the RedHawk Release notes direct the inclusion

of the "ide=nodma" in the Boot Loader Configuration menu when installing Red Hat Linux.

Inclusion of the parameter "ide=nodma" on an iHawk 861G system results in less than

optimum performance, because the disk will not use DMA transfers. The Hawker Acceptance

Test Facility will incur excessive FBS overruns.

RESOLUTION:  After completing installation:

1. Login as root.

2. #vi /boot/grub/grub.conf

3. Remove the "ide=nodma" parameter from all kernel commands in the file.

4. Save the file.

5. #reboot

This issue will be resolved with the next release of RedHawk.
